The mission of Florida Gulf Coast Paralyzed Veterans of America is to improve the quality of life of veterans who have a spinal cord injury or dysfunction (SCI/D).

We advocate for the rights of veterans and non-veterans with disabilities. We are actively involved in federal, state and local legislation  that impacts the rights and benefits of these individuals. This includes housing, sports, transportation, employment, civil rights, education, accessible parking and access into places of public accommodation.

FGCPVA receives absolutely no funding from the US Government or any other government   entity. We are entirely self-supporting, relying  on grants, charitable contributions from individuals and corporations, and income derived from our many fundraising activities.

Funding is provided to our disabled veteran members to allow them to attend a wide range of wheelchair sports throughout Florida and across the country.

Participation in sports is continued rehabilitation and is an excellent way to maintain good physical and mental health. Sports include bowling, tennis, quad rugby, basketball, power soccer, softball, weightlifting, billiards, track & field, trap shooting, swimming, scuba diving, sailing, fishing and air gliding in sailplanes.

Sports and recreation have incalculable benefits for injured veterans. There are the obvious benefits of exercise: physical and mental health, improved coordination, and teamwork skills. But for the newly injured, sports and recreation are also crucial reminders that their injury does not hold them back. Through wheelchair sports and recreation, athletes with disabilities can break down the barriers -- physical and psychological -- to leading a full life.

Sports and recreation activities are an invaluable resource for continued therapy and rehabilitation, and should be available to anyone and everyone who needs them.
