As a parent of a 34 year old young woman with cerebral palsy, I have experienced the joy, challenges and isolation that most families of children with disabilities endure. In 1989, Parent to Parent of Miami became my lifeline to discovering and navigating a new way of life, connecting and networking with families for mutual support and identifying my role as caregiver, specific to the daily demands of care-giving for a child with an intellectual and developmental disability.
Today, I am asking you to please donate to Parent to Parent of Miami’s Macy’s Shop for a Cause campaign. The funds raised will go directly to support our 5th Annual Family Engagement Picnic to be held February 24, 2018. Our annual picnic helps families connect and network with other families and caregivers of children and adults with disabilities. As our picnic grows, so does the need to increase awareness on health and wellness issues for the families attending.
The goal for this year is to include screening stations for health/wellness management to promote healthy living habits for the families we serve. Who are the caregivers of children and adults with disabilities? Parents 88%; siblings 5.3% and other 6.6%
You can make a difference by donating $5 or more to my team. Or share how Parent to Parent of Miami has helped you by creating your own team to help us reach our goal.
