BENEFITING: LITERACY AND LIFE INC
In 2011, with generous support from many, Literacy and Life (http://www.literacyandlife.org), launched the pilot program Parenting and Life Skills (PAL Skills) in Kingston, Jamaica to reverse negative outcomes for children in economically disadvantaged communities, by focusing on parents and their 3-4 year old children.
Our approach is based on research confirming that effective early childhood interventions for parents and caregivers in the critical early childhood stage lay the foundation for the child's optimal academic, social and emotional health outcomes.

We are very pleased that contributions by friends and supporters made a positive difference in the lives of 24 parents and their children! Parents who participated in PAL Skills reported:
• Feeling encouraged to do better
• Drawing closer to their children
• Seeing improvements in their child’s behavior in classes
• Making new friends
• Learning to identify their children’s problems and make a positive difference in their lives
Our work has been effective! We have launched the Parenting and Life Skills Phase 2 program. Our Jamaican program director, a World Bank retiree, will continue to draw upon extensive development experience to ensure the program has measurable outcomes and a good return on donations/investment.
We are in urgent fundraising mode, with a goal to raise $20,000 in support of 40 parents.
IRS tax-deductible donations in any amount are welcome.
• US $50 covers one parent for one (1) month
• US $450 covers one parent for nine (9) month
