EVENT: Annie's Garden Funder
I believe our garden demonstrates a connection between agriculture, food, and our community. Currently, our garden has four raised beds filled with basil, cantaloupe, corn, cucumbers, lettuce, marigolds, okra, parsley, various species of peppers, sunflowers, strawberries, sweet potatoes, various kinds of tomatoes, and watermelons. We are also looking extensively into implementing a corn patch, a pumpkin patch, a small orchard, and a walking trail. If awarded this grant, we would be using the grant money to purchase new gardening tools such as gloves and hand tools as well as basic gardening supplies such as tomato cages, cinder blocks for more raised beds, and fertilizer. We have big plans for our garden. As of now, our own Paris Garden Club comes and weeds the beds weekly. We have added help from our schools' FFA and FCA chapters harvesting and keeping all well. Right now, we are donating all crops we've harvested to our Community Outreach Center (COS) and plan to do so until school starts back in August. At this time, we will be dividing our crops between COS and our school cafeteria. Our goal to accomplish by the year 2018, is to have our high school cafeteria completely dependent on our garden. When school starts in August, we have plans to reach out to our other two schools, the elementary and middle schools, and get them involved. As you can see, we have an abundance of ideas for our community garden but our main problem is cash flow. We do not have the funds needed to grow. Before we can start working on building our dreams and accomplishing our goals, we must get funds. Please help us reach our goals!
