BENEFITING: US Association for UNHCR
"People are running out of places to run to," as I read this as part of a speech given by Angelina Jolie after one of her visits to a Syrian refugee camp I could not fathom the thought of being forced to leave my home and everything I have over night and then having no where to run to. Millions of people mostly woman and children have been displaced by violence and conflicts in their own countries and are facing a daily challenge of obtaining basic human needs, such as shelter, drinking water, food , cloth, and many other things that we take for granted. Losing everything and having to reach to others for basic need not to mention the emotional and psychological affects that they face daily, mothers raising children in such conditions is unimaginable to me. I also know that my attempt to help in the face of such great catastrophe could be considered insignificant but in the words of Mother Teresa “We know only too well that what we are doing is nothing more than a drop in the ocean. But if the drop were not there, the ocean would be missing something.” So I would like to challenge my family and friends to not use your cell phones for 24 hours and if you fail or not donate to UNHCR | The UN Refugee Agency. I would like to think that I am not too attached to my phone but my kids don't think I can last an hour without checking something on my phone, this is a good way to see how a small device the size of the palm of a hand runs our lives and how much free time we could have by not being attached to our phones and may be actually have a conversation with some one that does not include words such as " sorry what did you say" or "I don't remember you telling me that". So please accept my challenge and donate whatever amount you can, in these situations literally every penny helps, and challenge others the more people involved the better so we can reach the goal that I set for myself to raise $10,000 with the help of you.
