The Parkinson's Outreach Association's mission is to promote awareness for Parkinson’s disease and provide local support, information, education, and advocacy for people in our community affected by Parkinson’s disease, including their caregivers, family, and friends. We provide a variety of programs, free to the community, including support groups for people with Parkinson's, their families and caregivers; music therapy, art therapy, exercise programs, and educational seminars and symposia. We host two major fundraisers each year. The Tulip Trot 5K/1Mile Fun Run is held in January at Cascades Park in Tallahassee, Florida. This chip-timed event draws athletes from around the North Florida/South Georgia area and provides awards for all age-groups, including masters and grand-masters. Our other fundraiser is the Parkinson's Wellness Expo, held in April each year at the Southwood Town Center in Tallahassee, Florida. This event combines educational information with a walk around the Southwood lake. Individuals and teams of walkers are encouraged to complete with one another to rasie funds and awareness of the challenges of Parkinson's disease. All funds raised are back into the Parkinson's Outreach Association to provide information, services, and programs to the Tallahassee area community.
