BENEFITING: Parkinson's Foundation INC
ORGANIZER: Parkinson's Foundation INC
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
My mom was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease over 12 years ago and lost her courageous battle this March at age 80. Once fiercely independent, she found herself limited by the ravages of this disease.
I am running to Beat Parkinson's in the NYC Marathon this year in memory of my mom. When she arrived in the United States, she settled into NYC life and often talked about how much she loved her time there. It is where she found her voice, loved her job, found love and became a mother. They were probably the happiest years of her life.
It is no small coincidence that the race will take place just a little over two weeks from what would have been her 81st birthday. Just the thought of crossing that finish line moves me to tears. I know that she will be there, smiling.
Please consider making a donation to help finally conquer this disease that affects so many people. Thank you and God bless.

Parkinson's doesn't wait, so why should we? Every 9 minutes someone is diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. When you run with Team Hope in the TCS New York City Marathon, you will be running the largest and one of the most memorable races in the country and achieving a personal goal. But for the 1 million Americans living with Parkinson's, it means so much more.
