Why is PASA unique?

The Pan African Sanctuary Alliance (PASA), the largest association of wildlife centers in Africa, includes 22 organizations in 13 countries which are securing a future for Africa’s primates and their habitat. PASA advocates for its member organizations on an international scale, provides vital support, and works with them to raise awareness globally about wildlife conservation issues.

Extinct in our Lifetime?

Our closest relatives are nearer to extinction than ever before. An estimated 3,000 great apes are lost every year due to wildlife smuggling, many to spend their lives locked behind the bars of inhumane zoos in China or in private animal collections in the Middle East. Millions of acres of forest disappear every month. The horrific and rapidly growing bushmeat trade is considered the most significant danger to the future of Africa’s wildlife – for every baby ape who is rescued, up to ten are slaughtered. Unless people around the world take action today, the great apes may be extinct in our lifetime. What will you do to save them?

The Pan African Sanctuary Alliance (PASA), the largest association of wildlife centers in Africa, was founded in 2000 and includes 22 organizations in 13 countries which are providing a future for Africa’s primates and their habitat.

With a vast network of members throughout Africa, PASA is in a unique niche to address conservation issues on a large scale and produce lasting changes to protect primates from extinction.

The organization quickly developed into a model of cooperation which has been copied around the world. As a registered U.S. nonprofit with close partnerships with 22 African wildlife organizations, PASA ensures your donations go where they are most urgently needed and are used as efficiently as possible. Furthermore, PASA provides a trusted way to send money to projects on the ground in Africa.

PASA Wildlife Centers

PASA member organizations throughout Africa are leaders in wildlife conservation with decades of experience working closely with African cultures, governments, and communities. This ideally positions PASA and its members to enact lasting changes to save endangered species.

The wildlife centers’ diverse conservation programs include:
● Enabling arrests of wildlife traffickers by rescuing confiscated chimpanzees, gorillas, monkeys, and bonobos and giving them lifelong care and protection
● Working with governments to patrol forests and protect wildlife from poachers
● Giving local communities alternative livelihoods to hunting wildlife and exploiting natural habitats
● Conserving vast tracts of critically threatened natural habitat
● Educating more than 500,000 people every year about the importance of wildlife and the natural environment
● Rehabilitating apes and monkeys and releasing them to the wild

Through their programs to save endangered wildlife, these pioneering organizations employ more than 500 people in Africa and generate over 5 million dollars each year for local communities.

PASA’s Programs to Conserve Wildlife

Member organizations regularly call on PASA for support on a wide range of subjects. PASA advocates for the wildlife centers on an international scale and works closely with them to raise awareness globally about wildlife conservation issues. Additionally, PASA gives members resources they need to succeed by:
● Providing funding and technical support during emergencies
● Building their capacity through training in topics such as strategic planning, public education and community engagement, veterinary treatment, and animal care.
● Creating global networks of advisors and other specialists

PASA’s innovative accreditation program, which ensures member organizations’ sustainability and high standards and gives them credibility, has been replicated worldwide.

Please help! Your support is urgently needed to prevent the extinction of our closest relatives.
