THE STORY:

Kenji Summers wrote -

This month of the Passport Project is dedicated to helping families affected by the Alabama tornados get passports in order to Dream, Explore, Discover: travel, clear their heads, broaden their horizons, release the stress of natural disaster, and to come back to their communities with a world perspective filled with optimism. I chose to dedicate my 25th birthday aka quarter century because I have enough "things" and want others to be happy and reach their full potential.

ATTEND MY 25TH "PASSPORT LIFE" BIRTHDAY ON MAY 18, 2011 IN NEW YORK CITY WHERE YOU CAN DONATE TO THE CAUSE. DETAILS COMING SOON.

"Lets start a coalition so even the broke can go"
- Pharrell (Paris, Tokyo Remix)

The Passport Project is a product of a U.S. Millennial who got his passport in 2008. A few months later, while traveling to Barcelona, Spain, to celebrate his 23rd birthday, he heard Lupe Fiasco's "Paris, Tokyo (Remix)" featuring Pharrell, on which he states, "Fly to Paris, and end up in Tokyo. Let's start a coalition so even the broke can go". The following line by Pharrell, however, implanted the seed to move vigorously forward with the project: "Let my people go, to broaden their horizons". Coupled with the statistic that merely 36% of all U.S. 18-29 year olds have a passport, the vision and purpose crystallized. Since 2009, this project has incubated the hopes and fears of the Millennial generation, particularly in the U.S. We will redefine the coming of age experience, meaning of success, and rebrand the Millennial Generation as the Global (Citizen) Generation.

WHERE IS YOUR DONATION GOING?

Each month we will raise funds for a U.S. Millennial to get their passport. Each month an older, influential Millennial is identified to be a part of the Passport Life Coalition, entry is to help us identify deserving candidates for the Passport Life grants. This month is for our brothers and sisters in Alabama. By February 2012, we want to see at least 51% of U.S. 18-29 year olds with passports.

WHAT AMOUNT SHOULD YOU CONTRIBUTE?

$1, $5, $10, $20, $100, $135. It is completely up to you. We love you unconditionally.

HOW ARE YOU REALLY REALLY HELPING?

You are giving a young person access to transformational experiences. Remember the first time you heard about someone's travels abroad? Remember their smile? Remember their bright eyes? Multiple studies have shown travel makes you more creative and more intelligent. Along with travel being a basic human desire that we ALL feel, we want Millennials to become more well-rounded, in turn becoming better citizens and assets to society.

I (meaning: my coalition and I) give our word to dedicate ourselves to bettering the lives of everyone who receives a passport courtesy of your donation.
