Passports for the People
Organized by: Lainie Epstein
"Less than 5% of Black Americans have passports. We know the socioeconomic and institutional reasons that Black folks have not been participating in international travel. At this time, Black folks are in fear of losing our lives and our rights. For many of us a passport for us and the members of our family is an essential part of an emergency plan.
We have identified 50 black folks, trans folk, women and children and many other intersections of blackness to assist as day by day we are less at peace in America and fear being trapped here with our rights and our lives being snuffed out."
There will also be a benefit show in Detroit, MI in support of this cause on Thursday, December 29th at the Tangent Gallery. Performances by Nique Love Rhodes and the NLR Experience, Mahogany Jones, Deekah Wyatt, and DJs from the Seraphine Collective. 8pm-2am, all proceeds from the door will be donated to this Crowdrise fundraiser.
