BENEFITING: PORT HURON HOSPITAL FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Oct 19, 2012
Well, as you can see we hit our goal. Pat and I have followed through with our promise as you can see here. Its already been an eye opener for us to see how people react to guys who have PINK hair.. giving us a small hint as to what it might be like to have lost hair due to chemo and other treatments for breast cancer and other cancers.
With over $1200 and some still trickling in at the finish line here, Pat and I are truly thankful. The local support (and some even multiple states away... and warmer! lucky...) has been truly awesome.
In the coming days (yeah we're keeping our deal, one week!) we will be at work, at lunch, at the gocery store, at the mall, at arenas, at gas stations, etc... and its still a small moment in time versus what our Moms and others that are going through Breast Cancer have to ensure. If anything, we hope people ask us when they see us WHY we have pink hair when its not even halloween... so we can respond with how proud we are of our Moms and how important it is to DO SOMETHING, ANYTHING, to help this cause.
Pat and I found out earlier this year that both of our Mom's were diagnosed with Breast Cancer within weeks of each other.
We are happy to report that because of awareness and screenings, it was caught early in both cases, and today both are cancer free.
So to celebrate Ardie Hayes and Susan Wells cancer conquering battle, we are preparing to.... GO PINK!
We are committed to dying our hair PINK if we reach our goal of $1000.00. We will keep it pink for one FULL week of Breast Cancer Awareness month (October). That's right, at work, at home, at the grocery store, etc... one FULL week. Yeah yeah, go ahead and get in your jokes... "Won't take much hair dye"... But why don't you put your money where your mouth is and donate.
All the proceeds will go to raise money for the Port Huron Hospital Foundation -- Donna Niester Breast Cancer Fund. This fund helps local women who cannot afford the costs of pre-cancer screenings, mammograms, biopsies and other health screenings.
