BENEFITING: THE PATHFINDER SCHOOL INC
EVENT DATE: Jul 05, 2017
The Pathfinder School is a non-profit, fully independent school that has been serving Pre-Kindergarten to 8th grade students through both a full year program and Summer Camp since 1972. Pathfinder proves that joy and effort, hardwork and happiness can coexist and foster a lifelong love of learning. Hands-on, project based, experiential learning are the hallmarks of this unique school with a special emphasis on using the outdoors as another classroom. Did we mention the heart, soul and raw passion that our teachers bring with them each morning, crafting lessons unique to the group of students and individual needs that they have that day? Pathfinder teachers actively seek out the greatness each child possess and the channels through which that child learns the best. Employing the Multiple Intelligences theory by Howard Gardner, you will never see a teacher deliver a lesson through one angle. There will always be a multitude of perspectives shared on a particular topic (kinesthetic, linguistic, mathematical, artistic, naturalistic, etc) so that each child experiences the sensation of "I'm smart...I get it." As we watch their budding self confidence grow we see children stretch and try new areas of understanding without the same fear of failure. Rather, their full comprehension of the love and support from their teachers and classmates helps them continue to reach for even greater heights. Students are also challenged to answer the question "How am I related to this topic? How are all things connected?" The more that students can experience the relevancy in learning, and the more we can engage children's inherent curiosity, the faster, deeper and more lasting learning can come. At Pathfinder, everybody sings. Everybody dances. Everybody participates because school is FUN. Learning is exciting, and what we have learned lasts a lifetime. A very broad curriculum filled with elective offerings in addition to a solid group of core classes facilities an intellectual dexterity that serves our graduates very well. Pathfinder students go on to become Honors Students, Varsity Sports Captains, 1st Chair in Orchestra, Scholarship winners, and front row of the classroom, engaged, empowered, advocates for their own education. **HOW CAN I HELP THIS SPECIAL SCHOOL? As an independent school, we rely on the support of the community to make our program accessible to area families. we need tuition revenue and also extensive fundraising to cover the cost of our program. We are committed to offering a Pathfinder education to a broad range of families in the Grand Traverse area, and as a result, have a widely used Financial Assistance program. We are able to offset the cover more than 50% of the tuition cost for families who have demonstrated in need and roughly half of the families in our school make use of the program. Through your generous donations, we are able to continue to provide Financial support to families in need and to the wonderful children who benefit as a result. As a parent receiving Financial Assistance shared with us “Pathfinder provided a transformational experience for our child that has impacted our entire family.” **PATHFINDER'S SWINGSHIFT PARTICIPATION Pathfinder is thrilled to be participating in Swingshift this year with hopes of raising critical dollars for our Financial Assistance Program.
