BENEFITING: BREAST CANCER COALITION OF ROCHESTER INC
EVENT DATE: May 11, 2014
This year's Pink Ribbon Run marks the tenth anniversary of my diagnosis, almost to the day. (I was diagnosed on May 7, 2004.) It's been quite a decade! I feel joyful that I'm here and grateful that I'm able to participate in this event to help raise funds for those who work toward the day when no one will ever hear the words, "You have breast cancer". It's also a time to reflect on the courageous souls I've met along the way who have faced this disease alongside me; some of whom are no longer with us. Breast cancer costs our world far too much in lives lost, lives forever changes, and the broken hearts of those who must carry on without their loved ones.
So yes, I will celebrate this day in honor of all who have walked this road, and this includes their families and friends. Cancer affects the whole family and ripples out into the world - we're all in this together.
If you find it in your heart to make a donation toward this worthy cause, I will be grateful. If not, I am still grateful for all who have touched my life. And if you're at the Run on Mother's day, stop by the pavilion, where I'll be helping to make sure all the runners and walkers are hydrated and replenished after they return, and say "Hi". Hugs will be accepted.
