I'm a recent graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, with a B.A. in Russian and Philosophy. I spent the summers of 2009 and 2011 studying in Russia, and you can see some of the photos from those trips on here.
During my last trip to Russia, one of the volunteers for our group started the planning process for a charity that would reach out to Russian orphans and give them mentors (acting as big brothers/big sisters) from Russian universities to visit them and take them on excursions. I was incredibly touched by this endeavor, especially after meeting the largest family in Russia and their adopted children. The charity would soon become Allies in Youth Development. It has been one year since it was formed and AiYD is now serving 400 orphans in 9 orphanages and transitional homes. To experience continued growth, donations are needed to fund the program and to buy necessities such as soap, socks, undergarments, shoes, clothes, etc. Please help AiYD in their endeavor to change the life of abandoned youth. If not you, who? If not now, when?
