BENEFITING: LAZAREX CANCER FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Apr 24, 2016
Superheros are an inspiration to us all. They do the impossible. They get the bad guy. They shine a light of hope in places of darkness. The Lazarex Foundation does just that. They help connect people - told they have run out of options - with new possibilities. They provide people with the resources to fight cancer. They give families hope in time of despair. I have decided to team up with this group of superheros during my training for the 2016 Big Sur International Marathon.
The coming year - 2016 - is an important year in my running career. It marks 10 years since I first set out to conquer the marathon. On a cold and slightly rainy morning, I set out with friends Matt, Matty, Rob and Tim to run 26.2 miles through the heart of the Windy City. We ended the day tired and broken, but on fire with a passion to run this distance. Since that day, we have all continued on in a passion for running.
Flash forward to 2016. The Big Sur International Marathon is, by many, thought to be one of the most beautiful races in the country. Ten years after that first race in the bustling city of Chicago, I will set out along Highway 1 to run a marathon in my tenth state, California. As I begin to log my miles in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, I ask that you might consider supporting a true super hero - the Lazarex Foundation.
My fundraising goal of $3,000 is enough money to provide one patient lodging for one month while attending a clinical trial.
