Rick SAYS:
Friends, Tomorrow morning I…

Tomorrow morning I leave for New York and the NYC marathon. My bag is packed and I couldn't be more excited to run through the 5 boroughs on sunday.

This week I received a congratulatory note from the Organization for Autism Research for raising $6,000 in support of their mission to use applied science and research to help answer questions that parents, families, individuals with autism, teachers, and caregivers confront daily. $6,000! I can’t thank you enough for your support except to let you all know how deeply grateful I am for your generosity. And what better way to show my thanks than to run 26 miles around New York City in a Where’s Waldo costume.

As many of you know, Ethan’s autism diagnosis 4 years ago has had a profound impact on me and my family. It has been challenging to accept, it has raised questions without clear answers, it has been -and will continue to be- life-changing. Running a marathon for an autism charity won’t solve the myriad concerns we and so many other autism parents have, but it has helped put some of this in perspective. Now, when I’m out running at 5am wearing a headlamp or at 9pm after work running in a reflective vest, I’m consistently reminded of why I run for OAR and solicit contributions from friends and why I am so keen to raise awareness about autism. I run for the 1in 68. I run for Ethan.

So when I’m suffering at mile 22, dreaming of central park and the finish line (and the beer truck) I’ll be thinking of the generous support you all have provided. And I’ll be thinking of little Ethan, who gives me so much purpose in life. No doubt that will be more than enough to carry me through!

Again, thank you so much for your generosity.

With Gratitude,
