Help Homes for Our Troops accomplish our mission of building homes and rebuilding lives!
On November 6, 2016, I will have the privilege of running the New York City Marathon with a team of dedicated runners to raise funds for the Homes for Our Troops (HFOT) non-profit organization. HFOT builds specially adapted homes for injured Veterans from our recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Empowered by the freedom a mortgage-free and specially adapted home brings, these Veterans can focus on their recovery and returning to their life’s work of serving others.
Homes for Our Troops is a 501(c)(3) organization and has received Charity Navigator’s highest rating of 4 Stars every year since 2008. Charity Watch has awarded HFOT an “A” rating and included us on its list of Top-Rated Military & Veterans Charities. Nearly 90% of contributions go directly to HFOT’s mission of building homes and rebuilding lives. Learn more at http://www.hfotusa.org/charity_ratings/.
Since 2004, HFOT has built 222 specially adapted homes nationwide. Their goal is to build a home for every Veteran who qualifies for one of these specially adapted homes. Four of these homes were built for Wisconsin veterans, with two more in progress this year. As the only Wisconsinite on this year’s HFOT marathon team, I am honored to represent Charles, Jason, Jeremy, Jose, Russell and Kevin. You can read their stories at http://www.hfotusa.org/building-homes/map/wi/.
On a personal note, the 2016 NYC Marathon will be a milestone as it marks my 25th marathon since I began running in 2008. In addition, I grew up on Long Island, NY so it will be special to return "home."
Thank you for supporting my efforts to help continue the Homes for Our Troops mission to provide freedom and independence to our nation’s heroes!
