NEW YORK – to paraphrase Frank Sinatra:
“Start spreading the news, I’m leaving in a few days
I want to be a part of it - New York, New York
These vagabond running shoes, are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it – New York, New York”
I am excited to be participating in the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 6th. The road to this event has been long and winding. Since I began running 3½ years ago, I have logged more than 5,000 miles. This will be my 10th marathon and marks a return to New York, where I was born (Long Island) and have many fond childhood memories.
The NYC Marathon is one of the five major marathons in the world. (The others are Boston, Chicago, Berlin, and London). More than 45,000 runners and 2 million spectators will fill the streets and sidewalks of New York. We will run through all five boroughs, beginning in Staten Island and finishing in Central Park (Manhattan).
To commemorate this special event, I want to connect my 10th marathon with the recent 10th anniversary of September 11th. With your help, I hope to raise funds for the National September 11 Memorial and Museum - http://www.911memorial.org/ . This memorial is part of the World Trade Center redevelopment master plan. It will serve as a tribute to the past and a place of hope for the future.
My fundraising goal is $1,000. This amount will sponsor one of the granite pavers that will create elegant walkways within the memorial. Read more at http://www.911memorial.org/donate . The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is only possible because of your support. This organization is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All donations are tax deductible.
Lynne and I are scheduled to visit the memorial on November 7th, the day after the marathon. It will be a special feeling to know that with your generous contributions, we helped make this important national memorial possible.
Thank you so much for your ongoing support and encouragement!
