Friends, Lorin (POTS warrior) Alex and Julia, are hiking 13 miles for POTS, an often debilitating neurological disorder resulting palpitations, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, fainting, etc. POTS affects 1 to 3 million people in the US. POTS will be a household name, and this hike is a small step in that direction.

What is POTS?
POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) is a disorder of the autonomic nervous system. It is characterized by an increase in heart rate of more than 30 beats per minute upon standing. Symptoms are widely varied, but can include palpitations, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, fainting, sweating, etc. An estimated 1 to 3 million Americans suffer from POTS, primarily young women. The cause of POTS is still not understood and there is no known cure.

Fiery Gizzard Trail is considered one of the top 25 hiking trails in the United States. Hikes can view spectacular rock formations, cascading streams, waterfalls, rocky gorges, panoramic overlooks and lush woodlands. It begins on top of Mont Eagle mountain and descends into Savage Gulf and private property. The creek that runs through is clean cold and gorgeous. It is a difficult to strenuous trail, but worth every step.
