- Of the dogs entering shelters, 35% are adopted, 31% are euthanized and 26% of dogs who came in as strays are returned to their owner.
- Of the cats entering shelters, 37% are adopted, 41% are euthanized, and less than 5% of cats who came in as strays are returned to their owners.
In 2014, I attended a conference in DC where I met Nathan Winograd, one of the pioneers in the No Kill Movement. As a member of the Animal Advocates of Carroll County back home, it was an inspiring event on how we can all do a little to cause so much in the way of turning our shelters to no kill. Since coming down to college at Virginia Tech, I have not been able to help my shelter back home as much, but have found love in a new shelter in my second home. It was here that I have volunteered as a part of the Pre-Veterinary Association at VT and gotten to meet the people behind the scenes of this great shelter. Their passion and drive has caused me to want to help more, and what better way to really start than kicking it off with the Fur Fest 5k! If you'd like to help me help animals, even if it's a small amount, anything is appreciated! This is going to be a really fun and great event as we celebrate our shelter and the new building that is coming right around the corner. Thank you for your consideration of our cause, and wanting to help our shelter!!
