PAWS from the Heart Animal Shelter Transport and Vet Care
Organized by: Juanita Contreras
Deep in the heart of central Texas is the small town of Brady. Brady has a population of less than 7,000 people. In June of last year a non profit, no kill animal shelter was opened to help rehome, reunite, or relocate the many dogs and cats who wander the streets of Brady looking for their forever homes. Due to lack of volunteers and the amount of dogs/cats that received each month from the city we are spread thin. We have two regular volunteers on a daily basis. We are very proud of our accomplishments, the animals we have saved from certain death. We are also grateful for the support we have received from regular donors. With out them it would not have been possible to save so many lives. Paws has taken in 248 animals since opening in June of 2015 and of the 248 we have adopted out 153. We lost 28 to death from parvo, distemper, heartworms and other fatal illnesses. We are working franticly to transport the remaining dogs in the facility to rescues. All cats have been relocated to other rescues. Our fundraising goal is set at $5900 which should cover the cost to vet, get health certificates for, and transport remaining dogs. We have rescues in Wisconsin and Connecticut who will take a total of 17 dogs so we need to act with a high sense of urgency.
