BENEFITING: Humane Animal Rescue
ORGANIZER: Humane Animal Rescue
EVENT DATE: May 04, 2014
So I must be crazy because I'm doing it again. But I'm only half crazy and I'll stick with the half marathon for now. Again I'm running to support the Animal Rescue League in honor of Winston and Troegs. And again, I need your help!
If you missed it last year, here is the shortened version of the backstory:
Two summers ago I got this crazy idea that I would run half marathon in honor of Winston (our bulldog who passed away) and our newest (at that time!) family member, Troegs. I had the idea that I could try and raise money to then donate to the Animal Rescue League. Of course, if you know me, I've never been a runner. I don't even look like a runner, I'm far too big. But the idea kept nagging at me, and I thought well just maybe I could do it. So I started jogging here and there to see what my body could do. And then I started actually running regularly. I told myself if I could make 3 miles without stopping that would be a good enough start that I could actually register for the half marathon and train for real. And then one night I made it. Now I know 3 miles isn't that far, but for a guy who at that time was only two years removed from pushing nearly 300 lbs, and still carrying a good 240, it felt amazing.
So I signed up and trained and ran the half last year. As we got closer to the marathon I made a fundraising push that included a promise of running in my kilt should donations reach $1000, which would cover the total care of one animal staying ARL for an entire month.
Thanks to awesome folks like you last year we raised over $1200 for ARL, and as promised I ran the half marathon in a kilt. So I say lets do it again! If we hit $1000 this year I'll run in my kilt again!
This year training has been a little tougher with a rough winter, and also the birth of our new bundle of joy, Colin Joseph Williams, but I'm just as determined to do well and make a signficant impact again. I completed the half in about 2 hrs 15 min last year, and I'm going to do my best to better that this year. Your donations will help not only the animals at ARL, but also fuel my motivation!
No matter the donation amount, thank you very much for your help and support.
Here are some of the ways ARL will use the funds you contribute:
$30 will cover the cost of micro-chipping a cat or dog.
$50 will provide low-cost spay/neuter services to a family who couldn’t otherwise afford it.
$100 will provide behavioral training for an animal to help her find a new home more quickly.
$1,000 will cover the total care for an animal that stays in our shelter for one month.
Even more than just the care your donation will help provide, it also helps bring smiles and joy to the family who ends up adopting the animal your donation helped saved.
