BENEFITING: Payton Prep Initiative for Education
EVENT DATE: Mar 14, 2012
HOURS PLEDGED: 20
We call it Pi-Day!
March 14 will be the official day of celebration, with events being held at 1:59 pm. The Idea is to create a unique learning experience for the students that is fun and will increase their interest in Math and Science, while at the same time creating community awareness of Payton Prep's achievements and hopefully garnering financial support from otherwise unlikely donors.
Payton Prep being the nations leader in Math and Science Education, wants to be the first school in the area to celebrate the day, and hopes to build on the event year after year to involve more and more schools from around Chicagoland.
The event will have a uniquely Chicago flair by incorporating Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza as the official "Pie" of Pi-Day, and we would like to provide for a Pizza Luncheon for the entire school. Roughly 900 kids and faculty.
The student aspect of the program will focus on multiple teams (at least 3) constructing working catapults for a "Pie-Toss" Competition. Teams will be judged on distance, accuracy, etc., competing for a trophy that will ultimately be passed around form school to school as the event grows year after year.
We also hope to partner with an area Pizza Restaurant who will allow us to sell Gift Certificates to their establishment to raise money for PPIE.
Seriously, everybody loves pizza. How could this not be a success?
