February is Heart Month. But this Heart Month is different for the 1 million babies born with congenital heart defects each year — particularly those who need heart surgery or other interventions to survive. Together, we have the opportunity to truly improve the outlook for these children. Whether it means uncovering quicker ways to bring them home after heart surgery, or to help them avoid developmental delays later on — this is a perfect time to enhance their care and ensure they live longer, healthier lives.
The team at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital has developed a powerful research tool (the PC4) that allows hospitals across North America to analyze and compare the care provided to congenital heart surgery patients. These hospitals have pledged to transparently share information with one another to improve quality across the country and throughout the world. It’s not about giving a trophy to the hospital with the best care — it’s about figuring out what works best and making sure all children have access to the highest standard of care.
Let’s make this Heart Month different for the families counting on us. On February 12, please consider donating to this transformative research. Thanks to a generous donor, every dollar donated on February 12 will be matched (up to a total of $25,000), doubling your ability to change lives.
The time is NOW to make more amazing discoveries, faster — for children with heart defects.
