I experienced physical and emotional abuse from my high school boyfriend. He belittled me, threatened me, physically intimidated me, psychologically traumatized me by threatening to kill himself and force me to watch when I tried to leave.
That relationship changed the way I viewed future partners. I have spent years of my life dealing with the anger and distrust that comes with that experience. It sent me on a journey to understand power and control as it relates to gender, race and class. Like me, people who experience abuse carry those scars with us.
I can't help but think of what I would have done had I not had the support of my friends and loved ones to help me get out of that violent situation. Please consider supporting the Pike County Partnership Against Domestic Violence which provides victims a way out of this danger.
