BENEFITING: Pasadena Day Nursery
Our little ones have an insatiable appetite for paints, pens, paper, papier mache, pencils and pipe cleaners* in addition to other art supplies that don't even start with the letter 'P.'
Art is an important way for children to express themselves and understand the world around them. This year we will spend thousands of dollars on this stuff and we could use your help. Materials for a class activity runs about $25. A gift of $50 would fund a year's worth of art for one child. Or maybe you are able to give $500 to fund a whole classroom! Whatever you can give, it would mean a lot.
This winter, we are hoping to raise $1,000, which will cover most of our supply costs for the next six months.
Here's more info:
At PDN, as it should be everywhere else in the world, just about everything is used to make art: seashells, dried beans, feathers, stickers, leaves, cotton balls, yarn, buttons, magazines, fabric, you name it. And if you are a PDN parent, grandparent or friend, your have probably been proudly given all of these--glued to a colorful piece of construction paper, of course. And you have dutifully displayed them on the refrigerator or taped them up in their room or simply said "wow...how great!" before trying to figure out whether paper with a 1/4-inch layer of glitter can go in the recycle bin or not. Why? Because you know, like we do, that children develop a tremendous sense of self-worth through artistic creation.
* sorry, these days these things are called chenille stems.
