Domestic Violence (DV) is not just a conflict between two people. It affects family members, friends, and co-workers. How do you leave generations of domestic violence behind? DV permeates our homes and manifests in society at large, contributing to violence everywhere. The consequences of DV are significant obstacles for women and men and boys and girls attempting to break unhealthy cycles and live lives free from violence.
For 46 years, POV has witnessed the harm caused by domestic violence -- beyond the person it victimizes and the family it tears apart. We believe that by eliminating DV and its web of harm we, as a society, would be able to reduce the intersecting health, social and economic problems in our communities.
Our new Domestic Violence Action Fund (DVAF) is POV’s effort to imagine life without DV and acknowledge that DV is central to the struggle for social justice and is a root cause of so much trauma, suffering and social ills that persist from generation to generation. This initiative is a call to understand how deeply rooted DV is in so many issues within our society. If we want to reduce social ills like trauma, homelessness, substance abuse, and gun violence we need to end domestic violence.
