BENEFITING: NATIVE MOVEMENT
Background - In Indigenous communities both on and off the reservation, many youth turn to drugs and gangs because of broken families, lack of positive role models, and no place for creative expression and outlets for their energy. The Peace and Balance project is organized by youth who were able to transform their lives of violence and gang activity, through personal growth and community support.
Peace and Balance is built on teaching of the Dine’ and Hopi peoples of the southwest. Hopi are traditionally called the “Peaceful Ones” and the Dine’ or more commonly known as the Navajo live by a teaching of “hozho” which translates into meaning, living a balanced life. Using traditional philosophies and Western technology we aim to build bridges between the youth, elders and community.
