THE STORY:

Jacqueline Klimas wrote -

My mom was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in February 2012. With the help of her doctors at Yale, she is now thankfully cancer free, but no one should have to go through what she did, both physically with surgery and chemotherapy and emotionally.

The National Race to End Women's Cancer, an annual event in D.C., raises both money to find a cure to women's "below-the-belt" gynocologic cancers and awareness to ensure women regularly see their doctors to ensure any problems are caught early.

Almost a year to the day after she was diagnosed, my mom and I completed our first 5k together at Disney World -- a huge accomplishment for someone who had gotten winded walking up a flight of stairs just months prior. She is the reason I began running, so doing this race the past couple years is especially meaningful.

Other gynocological cancers are represented by teal and lavender ribbons, but we are the Peach Pacers because the peach-colored ribbon stands for endometrial cancer.
