BENEFITING: United Way Silicon Valley
Dear Friends and Family,
You know that I am passionate about educational opportunities for children, they are indeed our future. At United Way Silicon Valley, I am helping plan new programs for kids and families, especially those with the greatest challenges. We are working with the Alum Rock School District in east San Jose to help kids get ready for kindergarten with a “Bridge to Kindergarten” program. This 3-week program is designed to give kids the tools they need for a successful start in school. Parents of the students also attend daily parent sessions to learn how to support their child's learning. And the Kindergarten teacher who does the instruction gets to know the students and families before the school year starts, important relationship-building. These are all critical pieces that research shows makes a difference for long-term student success. As we raise the achievement levels for these kids and families, we all gain. Please support this community effort with me.
Take a look at photos of kids I have the privilege to work with - they are beautiful, inquisitive, and bright. (Click through arrows on the left, you will also see my own two kids as they have volunteered with many of our programs!). We have a number of programs underway in east San Jose in addition to the "Bridge to Kindergarten" summer program including: Reading Mentors working 1:1 with Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders; Summer Reading Kits provided for all students in six different schools in grades K-5; Dr. Seuss Reading Day; Holiday Gift Giving; Day of Action school-based volunteer day. Come join us at any or all of these great events. We are making a difference in young lives!
Please consider a generous donation to help us build and expand the programs above. All funds go directly to the education programs.
Thanks very much for your support!
