Pediatric and Prenatal Chiropractic Care for East Texas

EVENT DATE Sep 01, 2016
The first trauma experience by many is the birth process. Dr. Gottfried Gutmann, a German medical researcher, discovered that over 80% of the infants examined after birth were suffering from upper cervical spine (neck) injuries, causing many types of neurological deficit. Abraham Towbin, M.D. of Harvard Medical School said, “Life for the newborn depends upon the preservation and healthy functioning of the brain stem and spinal cord at the level of the upper neck.” 50,000 newborn deaths occur each year in the U.S. Approximately 10,000 of those are due to unexplained respiratory failure, known as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Professor Towbin sites “respiratory depression or failure” as a “cardinal sign of a spinal cord or brainstem injury that occurs during birth, but which frequently escapes diagnosis.” J.M. Duncan, a medical researcher in 1874 showed that the average amount of force on the baby’s neck during the birth process is 90 to 120 pounds, which is enough to cause a still birth. Dr Duncan found that as little as 90 pounds of force could cause stillbirth, while less could sprain the upper neck, leading to assorted neurological dysfunction. Duncan commented, “This is not what most obstetricians would consider a great force.”
Gottfried Gutmann, MD, Manuelle Medizin, 25:5-10,1987. Towbin A., "Latent Spinal Cord and Brain Stem Injury in Newborn Infants", Develop, Med. Child Neurol. 1969, 11, 54-68. Abraham Towbin lists the reference of Duncan's work as: Duncan, J.M. (1874) "Laboratory note: on the tensile strength of the fresh adult foetus." Brit. med. J., II, 763. In many cases of birth trauma, signs, symptoms, and dysfunction do not appear until later in life.
Our mission is to help correct birth trauma by removing interference in these delicate nervous systems leading children back to health through chiropractic care. We believe that every human has the innate capacity to heal itself when we are able to catch the interference early enough before irreversible damage. Chiropractic adjustments help restore the life force in the body so the body can begin to restore itself to health and wholeness. So many people are uninsured or underinsured and chiropractic care is often viewed as a luxury. We want it to be available as the necessity that it is for children having neurological expressions including but not limited to nursing difficulties, colic, ear aches, sleep disorders, failure to thrive, developmental delays, asthma, arthritis, ADD/ADHD through the autistic spectrum,... These are just a few conditions that have been successfully resolved when a child's nervous system is restored to optimal function with chiropractic care.
Children respond quickly to chiropractic. Many parents come to us as their last hope. Additionally, we want pregnant women under care so that we can prevent some of the trauma from dystocia and intrauterine constraint. We want to be the first choice for restoring normal nerve function rather than the last hope and we want to have a facility that will never turn down anyone who truly wants care for their child, but may not have the financial means. Since 1962, the chiropractic charity Oklahaven has served Oklahoma & we want to bring this type of loving service to the people of East Texas. Raising these funds will allow us to incorporate as a 501(c)3 organization and set up operation in a larger facility providing this needed quality pediatric and prenatal chiropractic care for East Texas.
