BENEFITING: Pediatric IBD Foundation
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2011
The Pediatric IBD Foundation seeks bold breakthroughs in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. We do it by coordinating, facilitating and financing a global consortium of scientists and physicians - working together to improve the medical treatment and quality of life of children and teens with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Right now we're supporting critically important research called The Biome Genome Project. The ultimate goal of research is to figure out why IBD occurs. The disease affects millions of people in the United States and other countries, but its causes are very poorly understood.
We're closing in on those causes by identifying genetic and microbial triggers of IBD in the gut. In other words, we're investigating anomalous interactions between the immune system and bacterial flora in the GI tract - all of which are necessary for digestion.
Once these triggers are characterized, we'll look for new treatments to manage them and prevent the disease from occurring. This will improve the digestive health in people of all ages.
You can stay on the sidelines and benefit from the results of our research. Or you can become a supporter of the mission. Donations large and small will make a huge difference to the research program.
Please make a donation. We have three runners in the 2011 NYC Marathon, and every dollar pledged to them will pay for the Biome Genome Project.
