Our family is hoping to adopt two children from Poland. C's job will be taking us to Poland in October 2013 and we will be living there for 3 years. We hope to start and finalize the adoption once we're there, per the advice of the agency we will be going through (Lifeline). Since the cost to adopt is high and since the process is long, we are trying to raise as much money as possible before we move, although we will continue fundraising once we're there. Our goal is to have all the money raised before we adopt so that we will not go into debt to do this. We estimate it will cost around $36,000 to adopt two children and we hope to do this debt free, but this estimate may be wrong since our circumstances will be a bit different than the average adoptive family in that we will actually be living in the international country we're adopting from. We will know a better estimate once the ball gets rolling later this year. Right now, our goal is to raise around $13,000. Most importantly, we appreciate your encouragement and prayers for our family as we embark on this long and emotionally hard journey.

Here is a bit more detail about why we have a heart for adoption:

As Christians, we believe adoption is a beautiful picture of what God has done for us through Jesus Christ and is one way to live out James 1:27 which tells Christians that, "Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to look after there distress..." It is also a significant way to "walk the talk" of our pro-life views that every life, no matter how conceived, has worth and value in the eyes of God. We would absolutely love the honor of giving a home to children who do not currently have one, and most importantly, giving them a home in which they will have the opportunity to hear the gospel, and by God's grace, see it lived out every day. When people hear that a couple is planning to adopt, one of the first assumptions is that they are unable to have children. We are not adopting because we are unable to conceive naturally. Some estimates say there are over 210 million orphans in the world today. With this heartbreaking number in mind, we believe there is no reason why adoption should be limited to those who cannot bear children naturally. We truly feel a burden and call from God to be advocates on behalf o the orphaned and we hope that through our adoption journey and through sharing our reason for adopting that God might lead other Christian families to realize the need and feel a burden to do the same or at least get involved in the orphan plight in another way. If you're interested in learning more about adoption and the Biblical support for doing it, I highly recommend "Adopted for Life" by Russell Moore.
