In 2016 I sought a channel for involvement in my new ‘neighborhood’, Manhattan. I can across PENCIL (www.pencil.org), an organization that brings together businesses and public schools to help prepare students for successful careers. I began by fundraising through the NY Marathon. Thank you again for your encouragement last year in both aspects.
Meeting the leaders of PENCIL last year has been a fateful event. As my involvement increased, friends and colleagues joined me. Our group now numbers a dozen people contributing to PENCIL’s mission. We have hosted mock interviews to help students prepare for real work interviews and held a career day for a class of 30 high school seniors from Queens at the GLG company headquarters. Earlier this year PENCIL invited me to join their Executive Leadership Council. I enthusiastically accepted, joining a group of New York leaders actively working to improve effectiveness of both the PENCIL organization and the schools that they serve.
My deepening commitment to PENCIL and the success of last year’s fundraising effort has encouraged me to return to the NY Marathon and raise the stakes. If I reach the fundraising minimum of $2500 I commit to match, dollar for dollar, all contributions up to that amount. Thank you for every bit of support you have given me and PENCIL already, including your financial support and words of encouragement.
PENCIL builds partnerships between the New York City business community and public schools to ensure that all students can achieve their ambitions. Over the past 21 years, PENCIL has provided thousands of students with college and career support, placed hundreds of students in paid internships across New York City, and partnered with hundreds of school leaders to improve school operations and student outcomes. Please consider supporting PENCIL's vital work by making a contribution. Remember, every dollar counts! No matter the amount, your gift will help PENCIL build and support powerful programs that transform students’ lives.
