Even in the schools that are considered to be among the best in Tanzania, school children often go the whole school year without pens, pencils, or paper. Despite the challenges this situation presents to learning, these children still learn and accomplish so much. For so many around the world, it would seem unimaginable to go without these basic learning supplies. Now imagine what these children could achieve if given a chance to regularly count on having what most people take for granted. I have seen the astonishment and joy of these children when they receive a pen or a composition book. Now think how many children whose lives you can enrich by simply giving enough to buy a few 20-cent pens, 10-cent pencils, or 50-cent composition books.
