The main purpose is to raise a real awareness of what people can do to help end K-9 mistreatment. People love puppies of all sorts but once they begin the adolescent stage of growing and become energetic and playful or in most cases, start tearing up the house or yard...people simply take them to the pound. Breeders of these dogs prey on the puppy crazed and don't care that two thirds of the dogs they produce are going to the pound after 8 months of life. Some people wait longer, one year, maybe three but before they are 4 years old they are put down. Some are raised purely for the sport of dog fighting and go beyond the bounds of abuse by cropping their tails and ears. K-9 are not asked to be brought into this world and when they are, they only want to be loved and treated as family. We as human beings need to check ourselves and realize that if we can turn a blind eye to this mistreatment of such a honorable species, what are we really saying about our humanitarianism. It is inhuman to put these dogs to sleep because it was doing what a dog does and before it reached its teens you send it to be put down. Dogs in pounds around America have a 72 hour hold on dogs. If they are not adopted, most are not, they wag their tails into a room that has the scent of death a dog recognizes immediately. That tail wag turns from wagging to between the legs to dead in seconds. It has to be the worst job for these people who have to euthanize these wonderful creatures. The money raised would go to letting the public know how to help control this cycle of puppy to pound scenario we have grown accustomed to allow. First would be to work with schools holding seminars that teach children the realities of taking on the responsibility of ownership. By starting in the elementary schools the children will have a real concept of dog ownership and its responsibilities and how dogs should be viewed as part of the family or pack. By starting with the youth it will introduce a sense of accountability so that the future generations wont even think of putting dogs or any other animal through this kind of abuse we see daily. Billboards, TV, Radio and K-9 events free to the public. Literature and fun activities to do with your dog from puppy to adult so you can maximize your time with your pet. People will be surprised to see what things they can find out about themselves through dog ownership. People will have a connection with an animal who has truly been 'mans best friend' in a way they never knew. It is true, behind every good dog can be a great dog.
