We are a team of activists and legal workers running to raise money to fight against military and law enforcement abuses of surveillance power.
The lawsuit, Panagacos v. Towery, is a landmark civil rights case in which a group of citizens sued the US Army for infiltrating, spying, and disrupting their peaceful activities in violation of their constitutional rights.
Over a two-year period beginning in 2006, Army intelligence analyst John Towery (under the alias “John Jacob”) infiltrated and spied on the Olympia antiwar group Port Militarization Resistance (PMR) and other organizations, including Students for a Democratic Society and Iraq Veterans Against the War. Towery’s “intelligence” was sent to local, state and federal law enforcement as well as the military and was used to target activists for harassment, preemptive and false arrest, excessive use of force, and malicious prosecution. They even put some of the peace activists on a domestic terrorist watch list!
These activists are no more domestic terrorists than you or I. They are committed to social justice, non-violence, and creating a more egalitarian world free of war and violence. To know that the US government would label peaceful activists as domestic terrorists should concern us all. This is why we are fighting back, and with your help we can prevail! Please give generously today!
All funds raised are being used to pay court filing fees, travel expenses for plaintiffs, attorneys, and experts. None of the money will be used to pay attorneys, who are all working on a volunteer basis. Everyone is working on a volunteer basis and we are raising money to cover our expenses. Thanks so much for your support!
