EVENT: Blindfold Challenge 2017
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2017
Dear Family and Friends,
On Saturday, April 15, 2017, my daughter Veronica and I are running the Blindfold Challenge a race like no other. The Blindfold Challenge takes place within the B.A.A. 5k on Boston Marathon weekend. I will be blindfolded and connected by a two-foot tether to Veronica, who will be my sighted guide. We will run the same course, at the same time and under the same circumstances as the other sighted participants in the B.A.A. 5K. We are running to support the Perkins School for the Blind and the amazing hope and opportunities they are bringing to young people around the world.
In many parts of the world, being a child who is blind, deafblind, or visually impaired with multiple disabilities, generally translates to isolation, life long dependency on one's mother, and/or lack of access to quality education; In other words, one of the world's most vulnerable children.
As Executive Director of Perkins International I have had the opportunity to see first hand programs that have brought opportunities and quality education to children so that they can reach their full potential. Built on the 187 year history history of the Perkins School for the Blind, Perkins International works to bring quality education to every blind child around the world.
As Perkins School for the Blind's most famous alumnus Helen Keller said: "life is either a great adventure or nothing"
Please join us in this great adventure as we support worthy cause.
