BENEFITING: Perkins School For The Blind
ORGANIZER: Perkins School For The Blind
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
I feel honored to run the 2015 Boston Marathon for Perkins School for the Blind. My mother and grandmother have both worked at Perkins. Growing up nearby, I spent many snow days on campus watching my mother teach children with visual and multiple impairments. When I was older I volunteered and worked at Perkins during college breaks; always impressed by the staff’s dedication to the ultimate goal of independence. Running the marathon gives me the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for the blind and visually impaired students on campus, in the community and around the world. I run for the Orientation and Mobility teachers, the Vocational teachers and the clinicians who are my heroes of the blind.
Perkins is a national and international leader and resource providing state-of-the-art education and services to children and adults who are blind, deafblind or visually impaired, including those with additional disabilities. Our ultimate goal is to maximize the potential of every individual we serve—empowering them to lead proud, productive and meaningful lives.
Team Perkins is running the 2015 Boston Marathon® to raise funds to support Perkins’ programs and services on campus, in the community and around the world. All funds raised will be used to help children and adults who are blind, deafblind or visually impaired reach their full potential.
