In October 2011, “RACE For A Soldier” created a new meaning for PTSD: “Permission To Start Dreaming.” Permission to dream of life full of possibility, of hope and most importantly of trust with their families, friends and coworkers. We want this phrase to be planted on all soldiers’ hearts and minds when they return from battle to the country they have served so bravely.

RACE For A Soldier’s mission is to raise awareness of the struggles faced by those living with Post Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injury and to raise funds to support alternative therapy programs that enrich the lives of soldiers and their families in a tangible way. In just three short years, RACE For A Soldier has contributed more than $97,000 to programs providing alternative therapies to military personnel and their families.

The longest journey many of our soldiers face is not the plane ride home from distant battle fields, but rather the struggle they face upon returning.  We believe that encouraging strong relationships between our returning soldiers and their communities goes a long way towards easing feelings of isolation and paranoia.

The statistics are staggering regarding the numbers of service men and women suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), many of whom are unaware of or unable to access the resources and support they need. Coping tactics such as substance and alcohol abuse, gambling and money issues are devastating families and disintegrating relationships. Many honorable men and women, fearing all hope is lost, are making desperate, unhealthy and sometimes life ending choices.

The Permission To Start Dreaming Foundation's goal is to fund programs
that are truly helping our Soldiers reclaim their lives, restore their families and readjust to their community. Far too many Soldiers need that extra embrace after they shed their warrior clothes and are dismissed or forgotten. The Foundation intends on casting a wider net of support that leads to substantial healing and will have a lifetime effect.
Thank you for your support!
