BENEFITING: Lydia Home Association
EVENT DATE: Jun 30, 2016
Former LYDIA Urban Academy (LUA) teacher, Travis Satterlee, is doing a 24 hour walk along the Illinois lake shore to raise money for the summer program of LUA. LUA is a small non-traditional high school that has been in operation since 2002. In those years, staff have sought to provide an education for students from Chicago Public Schools who had lost hope in themselves. Over the years, the staff has built the program from the ground up, striving to provide an opportunity for students to lift their heads and not only re-engage their minds and hearts, but to help them start looking to the horizon and thinking about a future. LUA has worked hard to maintain a state approved curriculum plan so the students could say, with confidence, that they earned a diploma from an accredited school. Staff have built partnerships with local business owners and city colleges to allow for the opportunity of work studies and dual enrollment in college. Students have learned about social justice, entrepreneurship, health, and accountability as part of a holistic approach to developing a well-rounded person. LYDIA Urban Academy needs our help to continue this program through the summer and fall of 2016. They have proved that they are invested in the lives of students. Please consider a donation to support them in making a difference.
