Peter Rigo was born in Toronto, Ontario and adopted as a baby into a loving Christian family. He grew up in Hagersville, Oakville and Hamilton, Ontario. As a child, he enjoyed playing hockey, baseball and started his own lawn care business.
Growing up in a Christian home, his family regularly attended and were involved in church life. As a child he attended Sunday school. As a junior high student, he became involved in music, playing drums in church services and youth ministry. It was there that he discovered his passion for helping people and building the church.
Peter was able to develop his creativity through using his gifts as a graphic artist and musician. In high school, he was enveloped into the arts, designing and building sets for stage plays, designing tee shirts, developing stage productions and sound engineering. Peter volunteered for Youth For Christ in the city of Hamilton bringing in Christian contemporary artists for concerts and events.
After high school, he attended Zion Bible Institute in Providence, Rhode Island. At Zion, he was heavily involved in traveling music ministry, graphic arts and youth ministry. Through this experience, he was able to travel to many different churches and ministries across North America.
While attending Bible college, he met his wife of 27 years, Peggy Rigo. After Peter and Peggy got married, they lived in Rhode Island from 1992-2000 where they served many different ministries and Peter worked as an interior decorator and painter. Peter, Peggy and their two daughters regularly attended and served in church in Rhode Island.
In 2000, Peter Rigo felt impressed to return to Canada and start a church in Hamilton, Ontario. In August of 2000, the Rigo family moved to Ontario and began holding regular Sunday services in libraries, banquet centres and church auditoriums. They found a permanent location for the church in the basement of a bingo hall, where the church grew and flourished for approximately 3 years.
In 2003, the church was able to purchase it’s first building downtown Hamilton, the historical Hamilton Gas and Light Company turned scrap metal site. Over a period of two years, Peter and his family along with volunteers restored the building to it’s original beauty and it has been the home of church services, musical productions, weddings and special events.
The church has grown exponentially over the years and now has a second location downtown Toronto. Peter Rigo’s journey so far has been filled with family, excitement, memories and more to come. For more information, visit peterrigoonecommunity.com.
