I have been the President of the Board of Directors for the Chesapeake Center for Youth Development since 2005. The organization was started as an alternative school for youth having troubles in school, home or the juvenile justice system. It's functions have expanded in the last several years to offer job skills training, GEDs, job intern placements, Family Health Centers training, youth center operations for substance abuse counseling, and family counseling as options to formal juvenile court system participation. The ecomomic slowdown since 2009 has been brutal on the amount of grant dollars available from federal and state sources, and private donations have limitations on what and how much they support each year. The organization is desperately in need of retiring a line of credit tapped to offset drastic state budget reductions in a grant from this fiscal year. And the IRS added to the crisis by challenging the accounting for payroll taxes in 2008 and filed a lien for $30,000 on June 1, 2014. Every dollar of contribution will give the center a bit more breathing room as they strategically re-orient themselves to the realities of current funding. My most humble and deep gratitude for any and all contributions that can be made by all kind hearted readers. Peter
