BENEFITING: THE SERGEANT THOMAS JOSEPH SULLIVAN CENTER
EVENT: Marine Corps Marathon 2013
EVENT DATE: Oct 26, 2014
The Sergeant Thomas Joseph Sullivan Center promotes improved health outcomes for current and former military personnel suffering from complex illnesses related to their deployment in our Nation's recent wars, particulary those resulting from toxic and other environmental exposures. These illnesses afflict hundreds of thousands of war veterans. The Center is the only Sec. 501(c) non-profit organization entirely dedicated to eradicating such illnesses through funding private research and increasing public awareness. The Center is named for my son Tom who died of complications of such an illness four years after having been recognized for valor for his servce in Iraq with his Marine Corps Reconnaissance Unit.
The Center is a charity partner of the Marine Corps Marathon. This enables persons interested in running on Team Sergeant Sullivan Center to enjoy the experience of running a beautiful course though our National Monuments AND to help raise awareness about and funds to advance the Center's mission.
Despite my age and girth, I have decided to run in the Oct 26, 2014, Marine Corps Marathon with Team Sergeant Sullivan Center. It is a peoples' marathon, open to all comers (unlike the Boston Marathon which allows only qualified marathoners to participate). I hope to provide a little moral support to team mates for at least a short distance before I am left behind with the other tortoises. With your help, I will perform much better as a FUND racer.
Please support my effort by sending a donation to The Sergeant Sullivan Center via my crowdrise site. The proceeds will be used to support The Center's research and education programs.
Thank you for your help.
