BENEFITING: Sea Island Habitat for Humanity
EVENT DATE: Apr 03, 2015
The Petrides Chapter of Habitat for Humanity is alive and well. Over the past five years, we have helped to build homes in Mobile, Alabama (2010) in Taos, New Mexico (2011) in Mission, South Dakota (2012) and in Manistique, Michigan in 2014. For most of 2013 we didn’t take a long distance build. Instead, we spent the entire year helping our Staten Island neighbors recover from Hurricane Sandy.
By the accounts of our students that volunteered, their experience was very tiring, memorable and uplifting, as they spent a week helping perfect strangers obtain an affordable home. Our school chapter has also participated in NYC Habitat for Humanity builds over the years including the Jimmy Carter Habitat Build Week in 2013.
This year, 26 students and nine teachers will be spending Spring Break 2015 in Johns Island, South Carolina helping to build four homes for local residents. We are looking for donations to support our trip. Each volunteer is expected to raise an estimated $1,000 dollars per person.
The $1,000 will help cover the cost of renting a coach bus and driver for a week, van rental, gas, an affiliate fee, insurance, housing, and food for nine days. We will formally acknowledge all contributions in a brochure and at a ceremony upon return from our Johns Island, Habitat for Humanity experience. Contributors will be invited to our ceremony where we share pictures and personal accounts from our trip.
Please make checks payable to: The Petrides Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. You can mail it to school, to the attention of: Michael Blyth, The Petrides School, 715 Ocean Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10301. Your generosity, as always, is appreciated.
