Your donation today will help us care for the 850+ animals that we will care for in 2017 as they await their forever home - and your donation will be DOUBLED for twice the impact. As part of this campaign, Sidewalk Angels Foundation will match dollar for dollar up to $25,000! Since 2007, we've found forever homes for over 6,500 animals and in 2017, we aim to top that to over 7,000 adoptions! We can only achieve that though with your help. Your donation today will help us succeed. Some adoptions of late:
Will, a mere 8 pounds -- but his new forever family says sweet Will is "one of the big dogs" now. There were some really tough times before his happy ending. Good Samaritans found Will on the side of a road on a cold winter day in February. They feared he had died; suddenly, they heard him crying. They rushed him to Pets Alive. The adorable black and white Chihauhau mix suffered from neurological and vision problems - initially thought the result of brain trauma. He later endured complicated liver surgery that saved his life. Swaddled in a soft blanket and given lots of loving care as he recovered, the little pup slowly started to rally: playing with a ball; enjoying some "tug of war." He's now enjoying life to the fullest - exploring the fields at his new farm home with his animal and human family members. This was made possible by many donors who helped defray the cost of his surgery and other medical care.
Roscoe, a 4-year-old dog, was very, very sick. He was emaciated, with bed sores on his body, and in pain. His owners could no longer care for him; they brought him to the vet's to be euthanized. An examination indicated he suffered from an untreated intestinal blockage - and that surgery could save his life. It took two hours of surgery to remove the 3-foot obstruction. He'd been just minutes from developing a life-threatening infection. It was "touch and go" for the first two weeks. Despite his suffering, he managed to wag his tail. Roscoe's friendly nature (and those adorable, perked-up ears) quickly captured the hearts of staff and volunteers. One day, Cupid paid a visit in the form of three very special humans: man, woman and baby. The love arrow hit its mark: Roscoe was adopted the day before Valentine's Day.
Then there's Dash, who was 2 years old when he came to Pets Alive. Dash was shy and hid when people came to the shelter. The years went by but then one day, he got his chance. TWELVE YEARS LATER, Dash went home! Many donations helped us care for Dash over that 12-year period.
Spirit, a horse, came to Pets Alive in late summer 2015 as a result of an abusive situation. She was malnourished and underweight, but once under the care of the farm team at Pets Alive, it didn’t take long for Spirit to recover. In June, 2016, Spirit found her forever home. It was the generosity of many that enabled this to happen.
There are so many stories like this that we could tell and it all takes money. Lots of it!
We are a no kill animal rescue in Middletown, NY. Our mission is to improve the lives of companion animals everywhere by any means possible, including rescue, adoption, advocacy, collaboration, intervention and education. The organization often takes in local stray cats and dogs as well as animals from shelters that face overcrowding so they do not have to resort to killing. Animals that come within our care continued their lives at our facility until they are adopted.
