You can tell a lot about your peers by their pets. Pets seem to embody similarities of the people who love and care for them. As a mother, I realized the importance of a pet in my child's life from the first moment they met. It was an instant bond that was never questioned. The loyalty, love and companionship from a pet brings out a child's sense of responsibility, nurturing and confidence in a way that no other relationship does. That bond brings comfort, joy, playfulness, concern, caring, and all promotes unconditional love. It helps children understand boundaries, commitment and compromise. I support the Humane Society of Leon County for the unfailing dedication to caring for animals that need to be needed. The team at LCHS are some of the most kind, compassionate and self-less individuals I have had the pleasure of meeting. Children have a great opportunity to learn some of the most important life-skills from adopting a pet. Thank you for this opportunity to give back to a cause that is so important to my heart. Our adopted dog, Joey, was rescued and had heartworms. A very generous veterinarian had donated the first treatment when we were introduced. We followed through on the rest of his treatments. He was estimated to be around 6yrs old when we adopted him. My daughter was 4 yrs old. It was love at first sight. Eleven years later he is still with us and as sweet and gentle as the first day we met him. He now has two brothers, a chinese crested and a chihuahua who test his patience daily. Joey has been a treasure in our family and we are grateful for the opportunity to have him in our lives. Without the Humane Societies all over Florida, we would have never crossed paths. Thank you!
