After volunteering for many years at the Black Mountain Home for Children(PHFC), a residential placement for neglected, abused and abandoned children, it is apparent to us that due to nothing on their part, they end up in a bad situation.
The state human services and the foster care system are in place to assist these children until they reach the age of 18. At this point they are dropped from the system and left to their own. Most of these children have not graduated from high school having been moved from place to place without any adult support. BMHFC has built an Independent Center that can house up to 16 young adults until they graduate from college. Since the state provides no support for these young adults this project is a way to helpto do that....housing, transportation, food. Can you imagine being in college, thanksgiving comes and you have nowhere to go. BMHFC provides this place along with a caring community of supporting adults and children.
