BENEFITING: Philadelphia Young Playwrights
Philadelphia Young Playwrights ("PYP") introduces the art of playwriting to elementary, middle and high school students in public and private schools throughout the Philadelphia area. At the end of the school year, students are invited to submit their plays for award consideration and feedback. The award-winning plays are read and/or performed by professional and college actors at theaters throughout the city. Students who participate in the program learn valuable writing skills and become more engaged in school, often leading to improved academic performance. One PYP alumnae, Quiara Alegria Hudes, has gone on to win a Tony Award (“In The Heights”) and a Pulitzer Prize (“Water By The Spoonful”) for her work. PYP’s annual Write On! celebration, our biggest fundraising event, will take place at The Foundry at The Fillmore, 29 E. Allen St, Philadelphia PA 19123, on Monday, May 9th. Philadelphia public schools and other public schools served by PYP in the region continue to face budget cuts. Your donations will support PYP’s efforts to continue providing award-winning playwriting programs to the students and schools that benefit from them the most! Please give generously.
