Hope, Health, Happiness,

Happy Holidays From the Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation

The holiday season is especially important to us - it gives us the opportunity to say thank you to our friends and supporters who have joined or recommitted themselves to the fight against colorectal cancer.

Your steadfast commitment enables us to continue our lifesaving public awareness, screening and prevention, and research programs. Together we fight to put an end to colorectal cancer and we fight to improve the quality of life for those who survive.

Wishing you Happy Holidays and a Joyful New Year.

On behalf of Thomas K. Weber, President, the Board of Directors and The Entire Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation

COLON CANCER … SAYS:
Did you know? YOU are fundin…
Did you know? YOU are funding the future – the definitive future of understanding the causes of cancer including colorectal cancer among young adults. Your support will fund highly focused efforts to identify genes that contribute to causing colorectal cancer and other cancers that affect both women and men. There you have it! It sounds dramatic - and it is! Your donation will make possible the complex research that will identify those most at risk of these deadly diseases and direct lifesaving screening and surveillance to those individuals. That’s a pretty hefty explanation for the complex research your donations are supporting! But, we thought you deserved to know just how important the research your support really is.
WHAT’S SPECIAL ABOUT THE RESEARCH? Early age onset colorectal cancer is a growing health concern and an important topic in medical research. The incidence of colorectal cancer diagnosed in young adults has risen dramatically in the past decade. We and others have already tested many young adult colorectal patients for all of the known genetic factors associated with colorectal cancer – FAP CRC, LYNCH, MYH, etc. Only a fraction of these young adults have a known genetic syndrome or a significant family history of colorectal cancer. But the genetic factors underlying their familial predisposition have yet to be discovered. Furthermore, recent data demonstrates that up to 75% early age onset colorectal cancer patients have no family history of the disease suggesting new and complex genetic factors underlie CRC. It is time to step up our efforts to identify new genetic causes for CRC.
WHAT’S SPECIAL ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY? With your help we are performing whole exome and whole genome sequencing. This is a new technology that massively expands the amount of DNA that can be tested and investigated. In addition we are able to also sequence so called non-coding regions that have not previously been explored for factors that have important functional effects and also contribute to CRC risk.
WHAT’S THE POTENTIAL IMPACT? We have the potential for discovering novel therapeutic targets and genetic biomarkers that will be useful for drug discovery, patient selection and stratification in complex human diseases including colorectal cancer. Simply put, with your support we have the ability to save lives. Learn more coloncancerchallenge.org.
Our sincere gratitude and best wishes for a beautiful holiday season, THE COLON CANCER CHALLENGE FOUNDATION

We are in the home stretch now! And we want to tell you once again just how amazing you are. Thanks to you we have raised nearly $60,000. With $60,000 we are able to fund one research fellowship for a full year - which is simply incredible! This is something to be extremely proud of, but we can’t stop there. Funding the research fellow is a BIG step in the right direction – the next step is funding the technology that will allow her to break through the barriers of all previous genetic research. And, that will take another $25,000. Simply put this technology is the only way of identifying variations in DNA sequences and genetic elements that contribute to colorectal cancer that haven’t already been identified. This technology IS THE FUTURE. And you are a crucial part of that FUTURE. Every dollar you raise, every mile your friends and family run this coming weekend is so very important. We can’t thank you enough – Team Colon Cancer Challenge.

Thanks to you we have CRUSHED our original goal and are cruising right by 200%!

We have an amazing group of individuals tackling the 26.2 miles of the TCS NYC Marathon on our behalf this year. We know your support has inspired them to make each of those miles count in the fight against colorectal cancer. Each mile and each dollar makes a difference in our ability to continue our lifesaving outreach, screening and research programs – all focused on preventing and finding a cure for the nation’s second deadliest form of cancer.

We encourage you to use this opportunity to make sure you know the risk factors, ways to prevent colorectal cancer and get screened if appropriate. Remember exercise and nutrition can prevent up 30 even 40 % of colorectal cancer cases.

Finally, don't forget you may be able to double or triple the impact you have already made by asking your employer whether they have a matching gift program. We are happy to help you find out. Contact us at info@coloncancerchallenge.org

All our thanks!

GOAL!!! We just want to be…
GOAL!!!

We just want to be sure you heard the great news! Thanks to you we just hit our original fundraising goal! But this year's team seems pretty ambitious. We won't be surprised if they double or even triple that amount.

Every dollar you have given counts in the race to find a cure for colorectal cancer and improve therapies for those already diagnosed.

An easy way to double even triple your donation is to check with your employer. Many companies have Matching Gift Programs.

We can't thank you enough for your generous support of our mission of A World Without Colorectal Cancer - Team Colon Cancer Challenge
